Lu, you were my very first professor at the School of Social Work for undergrad and still very much involved during grad school. You immediately inspired me with your fierce dedication to advocacy, social justice, and the Social Work profession. You introduced me to Children's Alliance and Lobby Day....we all sang and danced to Mary J Blige - 'No more drama' in your classroom. I miss you Lu and we all carry a piece of your legacy from within.

Dr. Brown was always so kind and encouraging from the very moment I stepped on the EWU campus. Literally. I was completely lost and overwhelmed and she took me to her office and helped me sign up for classes and then took me to every building I had a class in. I am so saddened to hear of her passing. Thank you Lu, you were quite a blessing to me.

Lu was truly a gift to students and colleagues! She was an incredible social worker whose presence every day made a difference. She had a gift of giving you the right words to carry you through those moments. I am so sad but know that her spirit is cheering us all on to do and be better. WWLD. Patty Gregory

I continue to carry Lu with me every day in my work as a social worker and as a person. Whenever I feel stressed or frustrated, I hear her voice, "What are you being called upon to develop". I have been working on patience since I met her in her Intro to Social Work class in 2005. When I stepped into her classroom, I knew I had found my place and my calling as she expressed the passion I had always felt but didn't yet know how to express or where that would take me. Throughout my bachelor's and my master's education, Lu was always there as my faculty field adviser and as my mentor. I am now a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and I am so grateful for Lu believing in me every step of the way.

Lu, my guiding light of affirmation through my personal darkness. You were my teacher, you taught me it's ok to speak up and be a voice for others.
I am saddened but celebrate a great life. You will be with me in my thoughts, actions and life. Thank You and Love to You.

I had Lu for Intro to Social Work about 5 years ago. She left an impact on me I still remember to this day, and is one of the few teachers at Eastern I had that I never forgot. Though I didn't end up in social work like I had planned, her loving demeanor inspired me to love others in ways I never had before

I took an intro to social work class from you. I remember walking out of class, down the sidewalk, holding in tears because your teaching style and passion for people inspired me. Thank you for your part in helping me become a social worker!

At first I had no words. Then I saw the signs- I was stopped in an odd traffic jam downtown, and made eye-contact with a woman in a large group of individuals under a rail overpass. She smiled wide at me, and I knew. Your words and guidance will always be out here, making those you had contact with inspired to DO SOMETHING. On the personal and Systems level. With love Lu.
