Marie Raus Obituary


RAUS, Marie Helda
(Age 73)

Of Pullman, died February 27, 2011 at a Pullman hospital. Born May 1, 1937 in Ambla, Estonia, she was the daughter of Hugo Annast and Erna Orgel Annast. Maire immigrated with her family to the United States in 1950. She graduated from New Britain High School in Connecticut. Afterward, she also attended college for some time. She later moved to Maryland where she lived from 1962-1973 and then to Virginia from 1973-1988. Maire worked for Atlantic Research Inc for many years, a position she very much enjoyed. Mrs. Raus was of the Lutheran faith. She married Juri Raus on March 28, 1959 and later had two children. She was very active in the Estonian community while living in the Washington D.C. area and was also was a Scout Den Mother for many years. She enjoyed reading and gardening and really loved spending time with her family. Survivors include a daughter, Karin Vercamer and her husband, Arvo, of Pullman; a son, Steven Raus; a brother, Michael Annast and a sister, Paivi Annast; and three grand-children, Indrek, Sulev, and Maarika. She is preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. at a later date.
