In 1967, my wife and I were married by Rev Brice Cox (a friend of Mart's). When he learned we were moving to Spokane, he referred us to Mart. That meeting resulted in our membership at the Cathedral basically until leaving Spokane. What a wonderful and humane man who displayed his love of God everyday and in so many varied ways. May you draw strength at this time by knowing he was such a marvelous man.

Dear Mart,
You'll be seeing Gary in Heaven, and the two of you can trade stories. I personally will never forget one Sunday when Olivia was small (5?) and during communion proceeded to trot up to the Altar rail, past the rest of the congregation waiting in line. Leave it to Mart to give Olivia a look and a subtle point back to the pews, and she turned on her heel and trotted back. But the chuckle was watching Mart roll his eyes as she made her way back down the line.
I will also never forget that you shared duties at my wedding to Gary. Caryl Marsh did the wedding, and you the communion. I will miss your oh so dry sense of humor. Peace to you my friend.

Papa Mart- I love you so much. I can hardly believe that you are actually gone. I am glad that I was able to have you in my life for as long as I did. I will never forget your cottage cheese, spinach and mandarin orange salad.
