Martin Kerin Obituary

KERIN,
Martin T.
(Age 83)

Passed away at his home in Montesano, WA surrounded by family on March 11, 2011.
He was born in Rushane Kilnamona, Ennis Co. Clare, Ireland on February 10, 1928. He came to the U.S. in 1954 after seven years of specialized nurses training in England. He was married to his loving wife Angelia in June 1958.
Survived by his wife Angelia, children Brendan and Jamie Kerin of Kent, WA; Dermot and Karen Kerin of Tonganoxie, KS.; Dale and Kathleen Roberts of Medical Lake, WA; and Maureen Kerin of Shelton, WA, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also, a brother Gus, sisters Delia and Mae of Ireland and numerous nieces and nephews in both Ireland and the U.S.
He was preceded in death by his parents Austin and Mary Kerin, brother Paddy and sister Catherine.
Martin was sponsored by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN until he went to Osawatomie, KS where he was appointed as the first psychiatric nurse to become Director of Nursing at Osawatomie State Hospital.
In 1959, they moved to Spokane, WA where he became Director of Nursing at Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake until he retired in 1987.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, a master at smoking big king salmon and putting on huge BBQ's for family and friends. He also enjoyed taking on the task of home improvement projects.
His love for traditional Irish music would inspire him to get up and dance a "jig" on occasion and to play his fiddle and tin whistle. He was a great historian and would take on a debate with anyone at anytime pertaining to politics both here and in Ireland.
There will be a celebration of life and mass at St. John's Catholic Church in Montesano, WA on April 16th at noon. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.

Martin was deeply loved and shared his love with everyone he met. He will be greatly missed.

Martin was my friend, a kind man, who always stopped on his way to Holy Communion to wish me 'Peace'. I miss that.

Now may I now wish you 'Peace' in your eternal rest, Old Friend.
