BOUGHTON, Mary Sue

Mary Sue Boughton passed away peacefully on August 8, 2018 at the age of 95. She was born and grew up in Los Angeles, California on February 21, 1923. Mary Sue studied piano and business for two years at UCLA and while there she accompanied actress/singer Kathryn Grayson until World War II started. She left school and began working at Northrop Air, first as a typist, and when they discovered she was good at math they put her to work calibrating flight instruments for the P61 Black Widow plane until she met her husband, Wes Boughton.
When the war was over, Wes traveled 7,000 miles to marry his bride, Mary Sue Sullivan, in Los Angeles, CA. They moved to the Spokane Valley where they raised their family. She was a long-time member of the Millwood Presbyterian Church and Northwood Presbyterian Church. She worked as the bookkeeper at the Two Swabbies in Dishman, Washington, and as bookkeeper for Baldwin Sign Company. Mary Sue enjoyed teaching piano lessons, sewing for her daughters, working in the yard, and camping with the family.
Mary Sue is survived by her two daughters: Jane Nielsen (Terry) and Gayle Fetcho (Michael), all of Spokane; five grandchildren: Heidi (Chris) Pierce, Wendy (Clint) Ditmore, Matthew (Jill) Fetcho, Brett (Liz) Fetcho, Jennifer (Tate) Titchenal, and eight great-grandchildren: Tanner, Adelaide, Sophie, Markus, Henry, Tilly, Katherine, and Evan.
The family wishes to give a special thank you to Rockwood at Hawthorne for being a second loving family to our Mom. The family also wishes to thank Horizon Hospice for their heartfelt care of mom in her final days. A memorial service will be held at Northwood Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, August 15, at 10 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mary Sue Boughton to Northwood Presbyterian Church, 6721 N. Monroe St., Spokane, WA 99208. The family will hold a private Graveside Inurnment at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
