"Milly"

Mildred "Milly" Olsen born June 18, 1920 went home to be in the arms of our Savior on February 28, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Olsen and survived by daughter Peggy Beaty (Radio) Cleveland, TN, Debbie Roper (Mike), Dalton, GA. Julie Allen (Drew) McDonough, GA, Michelle Earley, Canton, GA, Donnie King, Dalton, GA and granddaughter Stephanie Allen, McDonough, GA. She worked for the Washington State Employment Security Department starting from mail room clerk in 1948 to Office Manager of the Valley Branch in 1970 and retired after 33 years in 1982. She was a life member of Daughters of the Nile, and member of Pacific N.W. Personnel Management Association (Washington State Chapter) and also served as its secretary and president. She was a PEO member. From October 1989 to December 31, 2002 she served as secretary to the Board of Directors of Spokane Teachers' Credit Union taking the minutes in shorthand at age 70+. In 1973, she was chosen as Spokane's Business Woman of the Year by Eastern Washington University Business sorority and received several awards for meritorious service as Employment Security Department employee. She became a resident of the Waterford Retirement community in 2006 and had just been elected Council President. She was a devoted member of the Manito Presbyterian Church since 1957 and was greatly loved by their members. She served as a choir member from 1957 to 1999, an elder, a commission leader, committee member and Discovery group leader. As she writes, she wants to be remembered for her love of life and her sense of humor. Her passing is not to be mourned but celebrated as she is with her heavenly Father in paradise. Memorials may be made to Manito Presbyterian Church or Daughters of the Nile, El Karnak Temple.

Milly was an amazing lady. I always appreciated her sense of humor and her directness. She never failed to bring a smile to my face. And her shorthand was book perfect. I could have transcribed her notes if I needed to. Be in peace with the Lord, Milly - your friend and co-worker at STCU, Annette Bick

I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a very special lady. If you ever got one of her holiday cards (written by her cat?) you will understand what a great sense of humor she had. She will be remembered for her attention to detail, and abhorrence of "so moved".

I so appreciated Milly's sense of humor and attention to detail. She was definitely a role model for many women.
