Passed away on June 3, 2011, two years, three months, and four days before his 100th birthday. He was born on September 7, 1913 in Inver Grove, Minnesota to parents Charles and Christine Bester. Norbert graduated from South St. Paul High School and served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. National Guard. In 1938, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Schumann. Evelyn and Norbert were married for 65 years before her passing in 2003. A 65 year resident of Spokane, Norbert and Evelyn made Spokane their home in 1946 and together raised their family. Norbert worked as a truck driver for many years and owned two trucking companies before retiring in 1979. He was a member of Teamsters Local #690 and Trinity Lutheran Church. He and Evelyn enjoyed playing cards in their younger years, socializing, and traveling the US, Canada, and Europe. Norbert also enjoyed the Day Out For The Blind dances, bible study, but most of all he loved and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sons, Douglas (Kathie) of Inver Grove, MN, Ned (Milaine), Les; daughter, Nancy (John) Thornton all of Spokane; sister, Betty Connor of Miami, FL; 18 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Evelyn, a son, three brothers, and a sister. He left a wonderful legacy for generations to come of a good work ethic, kindness, and the love of God. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday, June 9 and 10 at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 4305 N. DIVISION SPOKANE, WA from 9:00AM -" 8:00PM. Interment will be 10:00AM Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a 2:00PM memorial service at the Trinity Lutheran Church 4704 N. Wall Street, Spokane.
