Richard E. "Dick" Harden of Moscow died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Tekoa Care Center. He was 82.

Richard was born February 2, 1928 in Mount Vernon, WA to Bert and Mildred Harden. After graduating high school in Spokane, WA, Richard joined the Marine Corp and served two tours. After leaving the service Richard attended the University of Idaho, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. While at UI, Richard was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and remained active as an alumnus, serving as a board member. While attending the U of I, Dick met Marilyn Anderson.

Richard and Marilyn were married on August 2, 1952 at the Lutheran Church in Moscow. He operated the farm that he and Marilyn called home for 47 years until Marilyn's passing in May of last year. He was also owner and operator of "Harden Realty" for several years.

Richard was an active member of the community serving as President of Vandal Boosters, as well as a member of Latah County Board of Realtors, Crites, Moscow School Board, and former president of the Polled Hereford Assoc. He was also a member of the Elks, Shriners, Moscow Chamber, Men's poker club, and the Emmanuel Lutheran Board.

Richard is survived by his sister, Marilyn Donnelley of Twin Falls, ID, his sons and daughters-in-law, Kirk and Kristie of Moscow and Brian and Sandy of Kingston, ID. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Shana, Matt, Kelsey, and Dain and beloved dog Otis.

A Celebration of Life will be held January 22, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the University Inn -" Best Western, Gold Room. A private graveside service will be at the Moscow cemetery with Pastor Gordon Braun officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Vandal Scholarship Fund or Tekoa Care Center.

Arrangements have been entrusted to SHORT'S FUNERAL CHAPEL, MOSCOW, and online condolences may be left at www.shortsfuneralchapel.net.
