Bob died suddenly at Arizona Regional Hospital in Yuma, AZ on February 4, 2010. Born January 7, 1931 in Colfax, WA, first child of Elizabeth L. (Scheer)Ackerman and Henry C. Ackerman; he grew up in the Dusty area. Hegraduated from Endicott High School in 1949. At Washington State College (now WSU) he majored in agriculture and was a member of the AlphaGamma Rho fraternity. However, his lifelong work and passion was to berealized as a result of his ROTC scholarship---upon graduation in 1953 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. He met the love of his life, A. Marie Tyrrell while at WSC and they married in Walla Walla, WA on August 16, 1953. When not in the air he loved working in his shop on the current "fix-it"project (often a car), wandering through a flea market, visiting with friends, or taking an afternoon nap. He made the rounds visiting his fourdaughters, loving them and their families while assisting with theever-present "honey-do" lists. He utilized his considerable build-it-skills (unmatched in any man on earth according to his daughters) for the benefit of many including Habitat for Humanity, overseas for several Work AndWitness Teams, and in Yuma for Helping Hands. One of his most special joys was visiting with people family, friends, and any stranger nearby who would soon be a friend, at least for a bit. His many friends brought much joy to his life (not to mention an excuse to get away from the dreaded paperwork!) He is preceded in death by his treasured and beloved wife, Marie, hisparents, Hank and Betty Ackerman, and his sister, Janet (Ackerman) Lytle. He is survived by four daughters, Laura Burnside-McElligott (Tom) of Heppner, OR; Robin Legg (Dennis) of Sisters, OR; Ann Petzel (Jim) ofEvergreen, CO; Lisa Emtman (Randy) of Valleyford, WA; by his brother,Richard Ackerman of Richland, WA.; and by 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
