"Bob" (Age 87)
A life-long resident of Whitman County, WA, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2012 at his home in Colfax. A memorial service will be held at the Baptist Church in Colfax on Friday, August 3 at 10:00 AM. Bob was born December 19, 1924 in Colfax, WA to Ed and Ruth Curtis. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1942. Bob attended Washington State College where he graduated with a Communications degree in 1947. His favorite pastime was golfing and he was a lifetime member of the Colfax Golf and Country Club. Although his first love was the family farm and cattle ranch in Garfield, WA, Bob was also the football and basketball radio announcer for the University of Idaho Vandals for 51 years, retiring in 2004, where he created his legacy as the 'Voice of the Vandals'. Bob called 540 consecutive Vandal football games and hundreds of basketball games during a 50-year span. He was the Idaho Sportscaster of the year 33 times, and was a member of the Vandal Athletics Hall of Fame, North Idaho Hall of Fame, and Inland Empire Hall of Fame. In 2008 Bob was the recipient of the National Football Foundation Chris Schenkel Award. He married his wife of 37 years, Lynn, on September 18, 1975. Bob is survived by his wife Lynn, his daughter Kris Bafus (Jeff) of Woodinville, WA; his son Todd Curtis of Portland, OR; his daughter Kelly Lindsley of Colfax, WA; his brother Bill Curtis (Karen) of Ritzville, WA and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jack Curtis. Memorials are suggested to the Plymouth Congregational Church in Colfax, WA; Whitman County Hospital Foundation; the U of Idaho Vandal Scholarship Fund; or favorite charity.
