Rosada Houk Obituary

HOUK, Rosada

Our beautiful, kind, gracious mother, grandmother and friend, Rosada Houk was welcomed into Heaven on March 28, 2011. Rosada was born in Spokane on June 2, 1932 to Hans and LuCille Olson. She graduated from Central Valley High School. Rosada married Bill and worked at Seattle First National Bank in Pullman so that he could earn his degree from WSU. After her children were raised she worked at Old National Bank and Gene Plett Construction in Spokane.
Rosada's children have been blessed to have her as their mother. Her grandchildren adored her. She was involved in the lives and activities of her kids and grandkids; reminding them how proud she was of them. Her heart and home were open to people in need. In fact other people's needs tended to take priority over her own. She added an artistic flair to everything she did. Rosada enjoyed giving fancy dinner parties, sewing, traveling, and swimming. A graceful dancer, she made many wonderful friends through being very active in the Crystal Chandeliers Ballroom Dance Club after her divorce from Bill. Being creative, she liked to decorate her house, the dance halls, the dance club newsletters, invitations, food, gifts and anything else that needed a special touch. She loved and was loved deeply.
Everyone who knew her describes her as sweet, loving, generous and courageous. An inspiration to many, Rosada will be missed dearly.
Survived by children: Julie (Ron) Bohman, Mark (Inez) Houk, Dan (Lori) Houk; grandchildren: Sarah (Doug) Pooler, Jon (Kristi) Houk, Melissa (Kyle) Vannatter, Brandon, T.J., Andy, Christy, and Mahlon Houk; great-grandchildren: Isaac, Kaylee and Aaron; sister-in-law Dixie (Ai) Self; sister-in-law Dona Olson and special friend Francis Ruud. Preceded in death by: her parents, her granddaughter Renae Bohman and brother Dan Olson. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00PM Friday and 9:00-10:00AM Saturday at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 4305 N DIVISION ST, SPOKANE. Rosada's graveside service in Greenwood Memorial Terrace cemetery is Saturday, April 2 at 11:30AM, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00PM at Northview Bible Church, 13521 N. Mill Road, Spokane.
Donations may be made in her name to the Renae Bohman Memorial Scholarship Fund at Camp Spalding:

I very much enjoyed getting to know Rosada, my mom's cousin. I picture Rosada with a smile on her face and warmth and care for whoever she's talking with. I'm glad my mom had Rosada as a close cousin going way back, swimming together in a little lake where they grew up and celebrating each others' joys through the seasons of life. And for us, visiting that family with the alligator in the basement when we were little, wow -- that was the thrill of a little kid's lifetime! That's a hard act to beat :). I'm grateful to have known her. -- Kathy Sands, daughter of Jean (Olson) Sands

Our family was very lucky that Daddy and Rosada became acquainted! We cared for her deeply as she was gracious, caring and very supportive when Dad died, as your family was too. Thank you again! Rosada was very special and will be deeply missed.
