Sidney Holden Obituary

HOLDEN,
Sidney E.
(Age 69)

Born January 7, 1942, Sid went to be with the Lord February 16, 2011.
He passed away at home surrounded by his family after a two-year battle with Multiple Myeloma.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Sid graduated from Bergenfield High School and from Central College in Iowa with a degree in Sociology. While in Iowa, he met and fell in love with his wife, Judith Vandenberg. Sid made Spokane his home in 1979 and together they raised two sons. Sid enjoyed a long career in the Criminal Justice system until retiring in 2007. He and Judi were avid boaters and campers and spent many long weekends on their sailboat with family and friends in Bayview, ID. He was an active member in his church, and was blessed by the many friends who became members of his Christian family.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judi; two sons, James F. Holden (wife Anca) of Belchertown, MA and Jonathan R. Holden (wife Tara) of Davenport, WA; two grandsons, Alexander and Daniel, and two granddaughters, Michaela and Olivia; his sister Janet Arguello
(husband Edward) of Colorado; and numerous nephews and nieces. Sid was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Holden, Sr. and Grace (Engleke).

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, February 21, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 North Indian Trail Road, Spokane, WA 99208. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, the Food Bank, and the International Myeloma Foundation at myeloma.org.

Dear cousin Judy and family, Our sincere condolences are with you and your children and grand children at this sad time. Rich and I will always remember how gracious you and Sid were to us when we visited you in Spokane many years ago. Our reunion last year at the farm and in Pella was very special. It was so good to spend time with Sid then and in Holland several years ago. We have always enjoyed and looked up to both of you and we will remember Sid as a very interesting, kind and fun person. All our love, Rose and Rich

Aunt Judi and the Holden family:
We have and will continue to pray for you during this time. Just remember that we love you very much and we are all looking forward to seeing you all again. Uncle Sid was my only uncle that I ever knew and he portrayed that role well as you have being my aunt, Aunt Judi. Those summer vacations we spent together on the lakes in Minnesota are some of the best memories of my life. They will always be a part of me. I’m glad that Uncle Sid was always amused at my unintentional spills into the lake as he so humorously described in detail at our wedding.

Love,
Pete, Karen, Joey, Allie, and Will (East Coast Arguello’s)

Aunt Jude, Jim and Jon:
Our prayers are lifted up for you as you go through this difficult time.
We are so blessed that we had the privilege to spend time with Sid in Colorado a couple of years ago sharing memories, swapping stories, and laughing til it hurt. I loved my uncle and Godfather very much and I relish the thought of seeing him again on the other side of the curtain. Love, Ken and Vicky Arguello, Michiah and Richelle
