BLOCKER,
William
Wesley Jr.
"Wes"
86 Years
Of Life

A longtime resident of Deer Park, WA passed away on January 25, 2018 from a brief battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy Rae in 2015. He was father to Shalmalene Emery (Aaron) and Bill Blocker. Step-father to James Wallace and Janice Diaz. Father-in-law to Shannen Wallace. Local grandsons are Jae Wallace (Kim) and Brian Wallace (Elizabeth). He has a granddaughter Haley Smits and grandsons Christopher, Nathane and Dallas. Wes was born May 24, 1931 to William Wesley Blocker Sr. and Elsie Cook Blocker in Plant City, FL and had two sisters and three brothers. He graduated from high school in 1949 and joined the Coast Guard. In April 1950 he joined the US Navy and worked as a Commissaryman, and was active until his honorable discharge in April, 1969. He went to work at Safeway as a butcher then started a 10 year career with Multinomah County Sheriff's Office at the Rocky Butte Jail as Food Service Manager. He left there to work at K & Y Enterprises and to also work at his ranch raising pigs until 1983. During that time in 1982 he met Dorothy Rae Pike, and after a short courtship they married on August 27. That marriage lasted 33 years. Together they journeyed to Astoria, OR to teach at Tongue Point Job Corps Center, and lived there for 10 years, later moving to Deer Park, WA to be closer to family. He took a job at the Spokane County Transfer Station, and was there until he became a groundskeeper at the Deer Park Golf Club. He finally retired from work to become a full time fisherman. Wes was friends to everyone he came in contact with. He was a lifetime member of the North American Fishing Club and VFW post 3067, and a long term member of Eagles #3564 and the USBC. He loved bowling and participated with many leagues and tournaments over the years. Fishing in his boat and camping by motorhome was a passion, spending the last two summers at Waitts Lake making new friends and enjoying the company of old. He had a green thumb and could grow anything! Beautiful roses, plump red tomatoes or grow grass in a hayfield. He was an outstanding cook always willing to throw out a spread. He made the BEST BBQ ribs of which he never revealed his recipe! He loved watching sports of all kinds. A Memorial Service honoring "Wes" will be held Saturday, February 10th, 11 am at the Zion Lutheran Church, 218 E. Crawford St., Deer Park, WA. Interment will follow at the Holy Redeemer/Kelly Cemetery in Deer Park with Honor Guard. Reception and celebration will be held at the Eagles Lodge in Deer Park, 12 W. South Avenue. We wish to extend special thanks to the Community Living staff at the VA Hospital in Spokane for their exceptional Hospice comfort care given to Wes these past two months. Bless you all.
