AMEND, Yvonne Yvonne Amend went home on December 27, 2018, at the age of 95. She was born in Seattle, Washington and spent her childhood years in the area. She graduated at the top of her class in 1940 from Chehalis High School. She then attended Pacific University where she met her husband, Dexter Amend. Dexter and Yvonne were married in 1942. Most of Yvonne's life was spent in Spokane, Washington where she and Dexter raised their family. Yvonne was active in the Spokane County Republican party and served as chairman on more than one occasion. She and Dexter were active members in the Opportunity Presbyterian church where she held many leadership roles including; Elder, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and high school youth group leader. Through all these activities the thing that she was most active and passionate about was raising her family. She was always a very vocal supporter of their many school and community activities. Yvonne had the innate ability to make sure that everyone felt welcomed in her home. She welcomed anyone who was in need of a safe and caring home, and her passion and concern for the needs of others was one of her greatest strengths. This trait carried on even after her six kids had moved on from the home. She took on added roles of helping Dexter grow his practice and taking care of her many grandchildren. Her support and love for all things that her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids did never waned throughout her life. Whether it was showing up to a sporting event, concert or providing dinner at a moment's notice for someone in need of good advice and a listening ear, she was always available. Through all Yvonne's life, whether easy times or hard, she was devoted to God, her husband, and her family. She worked hard, loved fiercely and shared abundantly. She has been welcomed into the arms of her Father and has joined the multitude praising and enjoying her new home. Yvonne leaves behind her husband of 76 years, Dr. Dexter Amend; her children, Dexter and Gail Amend, Harry and Sandy Amend, George and Becky Amend, Robin and Debbie Amend, Lynne and Rick Piper, and Jim and JoLynn Amend; 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren all of whom will miss her quick wit, loving hugs, and amazing love. In her final days Yvonne was taken care of by amazing people, mainly Sue, thank you for showing so much love and taking such great care of our mom. A "Celebration of Life" will be held at the Foothills Community Church on Forker Rd. on May 18, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the afternoon. "Our mommer was a bomber, that's our mommer."
