LOWRY, Mary (Harrell) "Opal" Our family and friends lost our dear, sweet, big-hearted mom, sister, aunt, grandma, and friend. Opal joined God and other loved ones in Heaven on March 4, 2014. Born in Harrelson County, Georgia to William D. Harrell and Mary Elizabeth Hiett on May 23, 1926, she was second to the youngest of ten children. She grew up in a large extended Christian family, on her family's farm, milking cows, picking cotton and being a tomboy. Opal enjoyed helping her father, climbing trees and playing stickball. Music was a family pastime, while her father played the harmonica, cousins and siblings played other instruments and sang songs. She married John R. Lowry on August 31, 1944. After living in Maryland and Georgia, they made the cross country move to Washington State where they raised seven children. She leaves with wonderful cherished memories, her husband of 69 years and children, Amanda (Larry), Patti, Tom (Emma), Tim (Char), Cindy, and Georgia (Paul) along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her sole sibling, Imogene, spread out over the United States. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, John Jr. along with her parents and siblings, Herman, Dewey, Myrtle, Pearl, Inez, Gladell, Eunice, and Zela. Opal loved everyone and everyone loved her. She was truly a Gem! Visitation will be held at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA on Friday, March 14, 2014 at noon with the service to follow at 1pm and interment at 3pm at Pines Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as a huge supporter of all causes on Mom's behalf, we would encourage donations to .
