He spent his growing up years in Calgary, Okotoks and Pincher Creek, Alberta and graduated from high school in Penticton, B.C. in 1950. The Mason family relocated to Boise, Idaho and Ron joined the U.S. Navy where he served for four years including time aboard the USS Valley Forge aircraft carrier during the Korean War. He attended the University of Idaho where he graduated with a B.S. in Business in 1959. On December 22, 1956, Ron married Betty Nelson Caufield in Boise, Idaho. The family lived in Moscow, Idaho; Yakima, Washington; Beaverton, Oregon; and settled in the Spokane Valley in 1967. Among his friends and family, Ron was known as a great soup maker, meat cooker and was very good at planning and preparing meals for large groups. The open road forever beckoned Ron with new vistas and he was proud to say he had visited all 50 states. He was a member of the Antique Truck Society and he and Betty enjoyed traveling to ATS events across the country. For about a decade they wintered in Yuma, AZ. Ron was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dennis, and his son, Robb.
