Kathleen GALOVIC Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 11, 2014.

GALOVIC, Kathleen "Katie" Malone Katie passed away unexpectedly on November 19, 2013, leaving us all with saddened hearts. Katie was born in Missoula on January 20, 1943, to John and Eveline Malone. She was the youngest of five children. Katie worked in the laundry room at St. Patrick Hospital as she went through school at Sacred Heart Academy for Girls. She saved every penny and her father matched all those penny's to send her to Carroll College in Helena where she graduated with a degree in nursing in 1964. Katie married Gary Galovic in 1965. They lived in Bozeman until Gary finished his schooling and they moved to Spokane. They later divorced. She worked the majority of her career in the emergency room at Holy Family Hospital where she made many life-long friends. She cherished each of those friendships dearly. When Katie was not working she enjoyed many different crafts, gardening, cooking, and baking. She took her incredible meatloaf recipe with her, but did leave a cinnamon roll recipe that she spent several years perfecting. She sewed more blankets than we could ever count. Her grandchildren were the lucky recipients of many of the beautiful creations, and continue to be comforted by them today. Katie spent hours and hours putting together and building scrapbooks for her grandchildren. Each book contains an amazing history written in Katie's gorgeous handwriting. Katie loved many sports and was a faithful Seahawks, Mariners, and Cougar fan. She watched every game she could and attended a few. College basketball was another passion of hers. She followed the Gonzaga Bulldogs the closest, but could tell you almost anything you wanted to know about any other team. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eveline Malone; sisters, Patricia Hayes, Shirley Peterson, and Mary "Molly" Wolfe; brother, Michael Malone. Survivors include her son, Daniel Galovic (Stacy) of Lake Stevens, WA; daughter, Tracy Schilling of Moscow, ID; son, Eric Galovic(Brianne) of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Andrew Payne of Missoula, MT; Emily Payne of Moscow, ID; Regan Galovic of Lake Stevens, WA; Ryanne Galovic of Lake Stevens, WA; Noah Schilling of Missoula, MT; Randi Galovic of Lake Stevens, WA; and her very dear friend, Lois Witherell. There will be a celebration of Katie's life on Friday, May 16th, at 2pm at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME, 4305 N. DIVISION in Spokane with a reception to follow. Pastor Happy Watkins officiating.
