MYERS, John Joseph (Age 90) Of Colfax passed away on July 6, 2014 at Whitman Health & Rehabilitation Center in Colfax. Private family services will be held at a later date. John was born on January 3, 1924 in Brownsville, Oregon to Conrad and Irene (Hayes) Myers. He grew up around Brownsville and graduated high school in 1941 in Albany, Oregon. John met Martha Miller while attending high school in Albany and the couple married on February 2, 1946. He served as a hospital corpsman in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed in Seattle, Bremerton, Farragut Naval Base in Bayview, Idaho, and the Asiatic Pacific. After his discharge, John attended Northwest Christian College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in theology in 1950 and was ordained by the First Christian Church in 1951. John's first assignment as pastor was in North Plains, Oregon (1953-56), he then went on to pastor in Myrtle Creek, Oregon (1956-65). While in Myrtle Creek he was honored with rural minister of the year for the state of Oregon. After leaving Myrtle Creek he was pastor in Prosser, WA (1965-72). He then settled in Cheney, Washington where he pastored until his retirement in 1988. John was a very active volunteer at the local food bank and was also a past president of the Cheney Kiwanis. He enjoyed training and riding horses with his children and grandchildren. After retirement, John spent time with his children and grandchildren hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed building structures around his property including a two story garage, and a building that he referred to as "The Museum". After Martha passed away in 2006, John moved to the Courtyard in Colfax to be closer to his son Tim. John is survived by his sons Tim (Jennie) Myers of Colfax and Wayne (Susan) Myers of Eugene, Oregon; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha; his parents; two brothers and four sisters; and two daughters, Sally and Rebecca.
