The Guest Book is expired.

MILLER, Zella Emmarine Bell (Age 96) Died peacefully Saturday, July 19th, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society Senior Home. Zella was born February 22nd, 1918 in Portland, OR to Robert Goodwin Bell and Minnie Belle Magruder Bell and was the fourth of nine children. Zella attended the Star school, a one room school house, in Riparia, WA through the eighth grade and read every book in the library many times. When Zella was 13 her mother died, so she helped raise her younger siblings until she married Frank P. Miller on June 2nd, 1935, at the Bell home on the Hunt Ranch in Riparia. They lived on a farm in Hay, WA in a converted chicken coop until they purchased the Wilcox Ranch near Colfax, WA in the early 1940's. They farmed, started their family of three daughters, and continued to help raise Zella's younger siblings. In 1946 Zella and Frank moved to Georgia and then to Walla Walla, WA because of Zella's health issues. In the late 1940's, Zella and Frank moved back to Colfax and lived in town while they resumed farming on the Wilcox Ranch. During that time their Main Street home was a busy gathering place and open house to all the friends and families of Zella's three daughters. They retired from farming in 1966, built a new home on the south hill in Colfax, and began to spend their winters in California and Arizona. Zella and Frank eventually made their home in Spokane. After Frank's death and 52 years of marriage, Zella lived several places in the Spokane Valley before moving into the Good Samaritan Society Senior Home in 2007. Zella was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and had special relationships with each and every one of her family. She attended as many events of her family, friends, and extended family as she could and drove herself to most of them well into her later years. No matter where she went, Zella's warm smile and quick wit never ceased. She was very creative and enjoyed painting, sewing, and quilting. She made many beautiful quilts for her family and friends. Zella and Frank enjoyed traveling and visited most of the 50 states throughout their life with their children, and later in their Airstream. Zella later made memorable trips to Germany and Alaska. Zella was very involved in her community throughout her life. She was a member of the Hay Fan Club, Dusty BB Club, Wilcox Grange, Colfax United Methodist Church, Philathea (bridge group), Athenium, Eastern Star, Colfax Golf Club, Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, and the Spokane Quilters. She also volunteered at Deaconess Medical Center and the Valley Hospital. Zella was crowned the Celebrate Life Pageant Queen in 2012. Zella is survived by her three daughters, Mavis Lust Jensen of Post Falls, ID, Karen (Bill) Curtis of Ritzville, WA, and Myrna (Gary) Kneale of Colfax, WA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Kim Lust Osmun, Robin Curtis Long, Bill Kneale, Laura Kneale Wallace, Miles Curtis, and Jeffrey Kneale; and ten great-grandchildren, Kyle Osmun, Jason Lust, Erin Long, Kindra Kneale, Lexi Kneale, Jared Kneale, Peyton Curtis, Colton Kneale, Brix Curtis, and Finley Curtis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1987, two grandchildren, Jay Lust in 2011, Dirk Curtis in 1976, and one great-grandchild, Courtni Osmun in 2008. A service and reception for Zella will take place Saturday, July 26th at 2 p.m., at the Good Samaritan Society Community Center at 17028 E. 8th Ave., Spokane Valley, WA 99016. Honorary pallbearers include Kyle Osmun, Jason Lust, Miles Curtis, Bill Kneale, Jeffrey Kneale, Jared Kneale, Colton Kneale, Bill Curtis, and Gary Kneale. Interment for Zella and Frank will be at Dusty Cemetary for immediate family at a date to be determined. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Society or the .
