VEDDER Mary Ann (Age 45) Was unexpectedly taken by our Lord July 3, 2009 in Spokane, WA. She was born August 2, 1963 in Woodburn, OR to George and Joanne Gerdes. Mary has been a resident in the Spokane area for over 25 years. She had a sincere and devout Catholic faith and was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. She gave her life for her kids and was a wonderful mother and friend who loved her family dearly. Mary could find the bright side to every situation and always knew how to light up a room with her beautiful smile. She could make you laugh even when you tried not to. Mary was the most warm, caring person we've ever known and taught us to be grateful for the little things. She had a gentle spirit, but was a fighter, a good listener and hugger. Mary was our positive consultant who taught us to face adversity with courage and wisdom. She was always supportive and desiring of the best for others and opened her heart to everyone. Mary continually made people (even strangers) feel loved and important. She never gave up. Mary is survived by her children, David Vedder and Elizabeth Vedder both of Spokane, Jason (Rachel) Vedder of San Diego, CA; her father, George Gerdes of Kerzer, OR; brothers, Matt and Mike Gerdes of Spokane and Mitch Gerdes of Dayton, OH; sisters, Marcia Harris of Monroe, WA and Margaret Wiltshire of Payson, UT, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joanne Gerdes. A Vigil Service will be held Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 7 PM at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 10, 2009 at 10 AM, also at the Cathedral. The family suggests flowers be sent to the funeral home for the services or a memorial made in her name to the St. Margaret Women's Shelter, c/o Catholic Charities, PO Box 1453, Spokane WA 99210-1453. Please visit Mary's memorial and leave a condolence at Arrangements entrusted to:
