KOHEL, Kenneth L . (Age 83) Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather left us on April 11, 2010 after many years of physical challenges. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 50 years, Jean Kohel. He leaves behind hischildren: Jim Matthews, Mark Matthews, Laurie Botzon, Barbara Doran (Tod) and Mike Kohel as well as six grandchildren and four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He also has two sisters, Marjorie Lutin and Marilyn Marcussen. Ken served in the Marine Corp during World War II. Following his medical discharge, he resided in Spokane. Ken started working at Safeway in 1953 and retired in 1989. At the time, he was chief refrigeration engineer at the Distribution Center. He was a lifetime member and past master of Spokane Lodge #34, Scottish Rite and El Katif Shrine Temple. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Vets and was active in the Civil Defense Search and Rescue. He also enjoyed amateur radio holding the call sign K7ROE since 1961. Ken was a man who held a solid work ethic, honor and family at the top of his priorities. He was kind and was always willing to help family, friends and friends of friends. We will forever miss him. The memorial service will be held on Wednesday April 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Masonic Temple at 1108 W. Riverside, Blue Room, Fourth Floor. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital.
