CLEGHORN, Hazel I. October 9, 1917 - May 30, 2010 Hazel peacefully left us on Sunday, May 30, 2010. She had lived a very full life, keeping her big heart hard at work until it could no longer keep up with her youthful spirit. Hazel was born on October 9, 1917, the youngest of 7 children to Etha and John McInturff in Johnson, WA. She grew up on Tiger Hill, WA and loved to share her many memories of life on Tiger Hill. Hazel met the love of her life, Milton Cleghorn, while attending beauty school. After the two years it took Milt to get past his shyness and ask her out, they were married on May 11, 1941. They had two children, a son Lee and daughter Sheila. They settled and raised their family on a farm on the Peone Prairie. Once she had finished raising her children and caring for many others, she and Milt decided to make the trek each winter to Death Valley where they worked for several years at Furnace Creek Ranch and traveled on to Yuma AZ. When the time came to once again settle down they moved to Mead, WA. They shared many great years together during their Happily Ever After. When Hazel lost her beloved husband of 60 years in 2001 she didn't want to give up. She joined the Hillyard Senior Center and stayed very active. In her spare time she loved to read, paint, make beautiful baskets from pine needles, garden and keep her loved ones feet cozy by knitting everyone slippers. Hazel amazed many with her wealth of talents, love of life and never ending energy. Late into her 80's she would keep her own yard and garden, redecorate her house, build furniture and visit her "elderly friends" often. In 2006 Hazel moved to one more home. She lived at Park Place Retirement Village where she quickly accumulated yet another new family. She loved everyone there and never missed her activities. The loving care Hazel received at Park Place is gratefully appreciated by her family. Hazel is survived by her son, Lee Cleghorn and wife Judy; her daughter, Sheila Reed; four grand-children: Carolyn Brown (Eric), John Goodwin, Brian Goodwin and Jennifer Shauvin; ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and outlaws and most everyone she every met, all of whom she loved. Hazel's love of life was infectious. If you had the blessing of meeting her, you just had to love her. She will be greatly missed by many. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 5, at 1:15 p.m. at Park Place Assisted Living, 601. S. Park Road. Please sign Hazel's online guestbook at
