Doug passed away at home surrounded by his family on March 10, 2012 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Spokane, graduating from Lewis and Clark High School in 1957. He married the "girl next door" and the love of his life, Beth in March of 1962, and served his country with the Army at Ft Lewis from 1961 to 1964. He worked his way through Eastern Washington University and graduated in 1966. After working in the banking and mortgage industry for 10 years, he left to start his own business as a residential real estate appraiser. He established himself as a well known and respected appraiser who helped to set guidelines and licensing laws for residential appraisers in Washington state, as well as mentoring several junior appraisers over the years. He was an avid hunter and loved spending time at Priest Lake with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Beth, daughter Lauri (Ken), son Bill (Tonya), sister Gretchen (Rod), grand-daughter's Jessica (Brian) and Nicole, and great-grand-daughter Gracie.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Doug's life will be held at 2:30 pm Monday, March 26, 2012 at Hillyard Baptist Church, 2121 E Wabash, Spokane, WA 99207. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made to Hospice House. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Spokane for their incredible service and support.
