Carl Bernson a long time Spokane resident, age 91, passed away peacefully April, 1, 2012 from complications of a stroke. His final days were spent at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center, Portland, Oregon.

Memorial services will be held on April 21, 2012, 10:30 a.m. Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum, 7200 N. Wall St. in Spokane. Interment will be at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Spokane.

Carl was born August 31, 1920 in Spokane, Washington. He attended Glenrose grade school and graduated from Lewis & Clark High School, January 1939. In 1942 he was called to serve his nation in WW II and was assigned to the 302nd Transport Wing with the 9th Army Air Force until 1946. His military duties took him to England, France and Germany.

Upon returning to Spokane after his military service, he went into business with his father at the Glenrose Greenhouse's located at E. 29th Avenue and Glenrose Road. He was a long time member of the Spokane Flower Growers Assn., a Co-op that marketed his products, which was later changed to Glacier Mt. Floral Supplies Co. He also served on their Board of Directors for 44 years. He was a member, secretary and President of the Inland Empire Flower Growers Club; and a member of The American Orchid Society. Carl was a life member of the Greater Spokane Elks Lodge No. 228; a member of Spokane Moose Lodge No. 161; and The South Side Senior Activity Center. On August 16, 1952, Carl married his loving wife Ann Schumacher. She passed away August 24, 2008.

After Carl sold Glenrose Greenhouse's, he enjoyed having coffee and playing golf with friends. His easy going manner and friendly nature made it easy for him to meet people, make friends and develop respect among his peers. Carl enjoyed working in the yard and taking care of flowers around his house. In 2009 Carl moved to Harvard Park Retirement Community in Spokane. In 2011 he moved to Carlsberry Place, a wonderful and caring Adult Care Facility in Gresham, Oregon.

Carl is survived by step-son Jim Weninger and wife Sharon of Gresham, Oregon; step-daughter Patricia Ann Volk and husband Steve of Spokane; five step-grandchildren; and twelve step-great-grandchildren. Carl was preceded in death by his wife Ann, parents Bernard and Nanny (Berggren) Bernson, his sister Dorothy and a step-great-grandchild Colton Dennis.
