Ronald FECHNER Obituary

FECHNER, Ronald Charles (Age 79) Long term resident of Spokane peacefully passed to be with his Lord on January 16, 2015. Born August 15, 1935 in Milltown, Montana to Emil and Cornelia Fechner. Ron was the third of three children. His siblings were older brother Don and one older sister Alice. Ron married Sally, his high school sweetheart, on November 24, 1954. The couple had three children and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Ron spent several years in the National Guard at Fort Lewis in Washington state. During that time he was employed by Western Pine as a sawyer and security guard. In 1967 he was hired by the Washington Water Power Co. as a stationary engineer in the boiler room. During his 26 year tenure he had several positions advancing to superintendent of the Central Steam Plant. He was an active member of the community involved with several organizations. These included the Industrial Inspectors and Engineers and Central Lions Club. While president of the Lions from 1985 to 1986 he spearheaded numerous projects and fundraising efforts including installation of a commercial cooler for the beer gardens at the Spokane Interstate Fairgrounds. Automobile restoration was his passion and his paint, body and mechanical skills were second to none. Ron owned numerous classic cars throughout the years and had an eye for the rare and desirable models that are only found in private collections today. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Don and sister Alice. Survived by his wife Sally; oldest son Ron (Nancy); daughter Resa (Lori); youngest son Rick (Julie); grandchildren Kim Brady, Keith, Danae and Micah Fechner, Kayleena Spegal, Amber Cornwell and four great-grandchildren: Mia, Skye Brady, Koda and Madison Spegal; nephew, Mickey (Susie) Docterman. A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Heritage Funeral Chapel with reception following. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice House for their compassionate and exceptional care.

Ron will live on in the steam plant. Best to his family

Ron Wells

January 28, 2015

My heartfelt sympathies to your family over the loss of Ron. He was an extraordinary man, generous of spirit, cheerful, fun, and delightful. His enthusiasm with our renovation of the Steam Plant was infectious. He shared many great stories of that monumental building. He was always anxious to share his wisdom, experience, and insight --- which made the challenging renovation process a lot more pleasant. We will always treasure his contributions, time, efforts, and energy.

Our sympathies to the family. My mom, Caroll, so enjoyed her last visit to Spokane and getting to sit and talk with her cousin Ron. We are thinking of all of you.

My sympathy to all of you at the loss of your loved one. I thought a lot of Ron when I worked with him at the Steam Plant shortly before it closed. He was a great boss.
