News Death Notice

HAWKE, Henry L. 80, of Fairborn, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 12, 2013, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. He was born on May 6, 1933, in Clark County, the son of the late Henry Ross and Ida Louise (Mowell) Hawke. Henry married the love of his life, Norma Jean Cochran on November 23, 1953. He and his wife were faithful members of First Christian Church since 1966 where he served as a deacon, taught IAH for 18 1/2 years, junior church for 5 years, went on 3 mission trips to Honduras, Haiti and Mozambique and served as church janitor for 7 years. Henry was a hard working man and a dedicated employee to Silver's for 9 years and Suburban Motor Freight for 27 1/2 years. He was also a member of the Teamsters Retiree Club. Henry was a proud veteran in the United States Army who served in the Korean Conflict. His greatest joy in life was his family. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren and wanted to spend every moment he could with them. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Norma Jean; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Howard and Angela Hawke; daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie Lee and Dennis Johnson, Janie Louise and Steven Hasser, Kathy Lynne and Jeff Gevedon and Jenifer Kay and Patrick DeWitt; grandchildren, Robert Leon (Elizabeth) Stokes, Brian Michael (Tabitha) Stokes, Steven Michael Hasser, Barry Lee Hasser, Márcia Rebekah Hawke, Emilee Louise Johnson, Joseph Patrick DeWitt, Sadie Louise DeWitt, Abigail Rachel Hawke and Leah Renee Hawke; great-grandchildren, Lydia Ruth Jean Stokes, Jackson Herbert Lee Stokes; and brother, Theodore Dale Hawke. He was greeted in Heaven by his parents, son-in-law, Paul Dowdy and many other people who were dear to him. Viewing will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at First Christian Church, 3638 Middle Urbana Rd, Springfield, OH 45502. A celebration of Henry's life will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church with Joel Augustus officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Henry to First Christian Missionaries, 3638 Middle Urbana Rd, Springfield, OH 45502, Springfield Church of Christ, 1620 Buck Creek Ln., Springfield, OH 45502 or Crossroads Hospice, 8069 Washington Village Dr, Dayton, OH 45458.
