News Death Notice
SHAFFER, Wendell "Lee" 88, formerly of Springfield, Ohio passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 in The Kobacker House in Columbus. He was born March 28, 1926 to the late Thurman & Glenna (Ballentine) Shaffer of Champaign County. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Shaffer; sisters, Gwendolyn Shaffer and Gwelda Gantt. He is survived by his wife, Mildred "Mick" Shaffer; daughter, Rita & Jim Hines of Columbus; grandsons, Matt (Aimee) Hines and Chris Hines. Lee also is survived by two great grandchildren, Will & Ellie Hines. Other survivors include nephews, Richard (Shirley) Gantt, Jerry Gantt, and niece, Cinda (Gordon) Shea, and sister-in-law, Joan Thackery of Xenia. Lee was employed with his father for over 50 years as a carpenter and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Iowa battleship in the South Pacific in 1944-45. He served as Choir Director at Asbury Methodist Church, Newson Missionary Church & Tipp City Church of the Nazarene for a total of 58 years. He was a graduate of North Hampton High School. The family wishes to thank the staff of Ohio Health Hospice & the Kobacker House for their compassionate care. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Monday July 14, 2014 at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio. Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday in the funeral home with a visitation one hour prior with Rev. Bradley Warkentine officiating. Burial will be in Terre Haute Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Tipp City Church of the Nazarene or the Kobacker House. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to www.trostelchapman.com

We are so sorry Mick, Rita and family. We loved Lee and we will always consider you both as a.k.a. Mom and Dad. Lee is now directing choirs in Heaven. Love you

So sorry about your loss, he will definitely be missed. Sure loved growing up across the road from you all, definitely will remember all the fun times especially the pool times.
