CAPLINGER, Carol* - Springfield  
Died in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, on Sunday, May 1, 2016. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, November 15, 1935. Her parents, L. Neal Worthington and Ethel Bruner Worthington, and her brother, Kenneth Bruner Worthington, are deceased. Carol was valedictorian of her high school class at Washington Local High School at Lewistown. She was graduated from Wittenberg College with the degree BS in Medical Technology. She did graduate work at The Ohio State University and at Western Michigan University. At the time of her death, she was less than one day away from her fifty-sixth anniversary on May 2 of her marriage to James L. Caplinger, who survives. He is an attorney, and earlier served as City Manager of Springfield.Other members of her family include: Children: Carol Lee Caplinger-Lemons, James Neal Caplinger, and Victoria A. Caplinger. Grandchildren: Jeffery L. Lemons (and wife Catie), Joseph S. Caplinger (and wife Julia), Troy S. Caplinger, and Nic Landaverde. Great Grandchildren: Christian J. Lemons, Carson J. Lemons, Charlotte Lee Caplinger, and Kyle J. Caplinger. These family members reside in Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, and North Carolina.Carol Caplinger was employed at City and Mercy Hospitals in Springfield, Mercy Hospital in Urbana, Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, and at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in the physiological research department. Later, she devoted herself totally to her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother. Carol enjoyed good music and art, excellent cuisine, and travel. She was a Penn State Master Gardener who was recognized as an expert on native plants and invasive plants. She did extensive volunteer work at Kings Gap State Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Richards, Raff, and Dunbar Memorial Home. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016, with visiting hours starting at 1:00 pm until the service begins at 2:00 pm at the Grace United Methodist Church in Ithaca, Ohio. Burial will be at the Ithaca Cemetery. Following, all are invited to dinner at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Kings Gap or to Wittenberg University. A memorial service will be held later in Pennsylvania.

News Death Notice CLARKE, Nancy Donaldson 93, of Springfield, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family on Saturday morning, April 30, 2016. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 5, 1922, the daughter of the late Walter Foster and Nan (Van Swearingen) Donaldson. Nancy was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Springfield Country Club and the Women's Town Club. She enjoyed golf, playing Bridge and volunteering. She is survived by two daughters, Sally (Carty) Hall of Cincinnati and Anne Kaull of Rocky River, OH; daughter-in-law, Kate Rust of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren, Emily, Clarke, Cart, Hannah, Merrick, Grey, Zehr, and George; two great grandchildren, Sammy and Danny; two brothers, J. Boyce Donaldson and William P. (Shirley) Donaldson; and dear friends and care givers, Donna and Ronnie Bowshier, Maria Weiss, Lisa Springer, and Lisa McDanel. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Samuel D. Clarke Jr.; a son, Samuel D. Clarke; son-in-law, Lance Kaull; and three siblings. A service in celebration of Nancy's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Raymond Stewart presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 100 W. McCreight Ave., Springfield, OH 45504 or Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 N. Limestone St., Springfield, OH 45503.

He Retired from D & H Manf. He was married 67 yrs. to the love of his life Betty Eileen Pelfrey. He was the son of Elijah Flemon & Zona Pelfrey, brother Charles Pelfrey, sister Jenny Lou, Betty Jean Reynolds, brother-in-law Tracy & Elaine Cooper. He was a great father to Tom & Jacqueline Pelfrey, Tracy Pelfrey, Terry & Christine Pelfrey, Toby & Barbara Pelfrey, Tawnya Pelfrey, Eric McCabe, Tangerine & Rob Hepp; grandchildren Tom & Tonya Pelfrey, Trent, Brian & Jessica Pelfrey, Christopher, Michael, Travis, Josh, Blain & Shaina Pelfrey, Amy Bowens, Michelle Moran; great grandchildren, Michelle Williams, Derek, Mason, Spenser, Thais, and Owen. Great great grandchildren Gavin, Zoey, Triston, Londyn Johnson, Caleb Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty Eileen, grandchildren Tanisha, Brandon Pelfrey. He donated his body to Wright State. He will rest at McConkey Cemetery later. In his life Willis helped family, friends, neighbors all he could. In death he helped one last time by donating his body to science.

ROZEBOOM, Althea Irene (Smith)* - Springfield  
News Death Notice ROZEBOOM, (Smith), Althea Irene 96, of Springfield, OH, died May 2, 2016. Althea was was born on June 19, 1919 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the first child of Charles and Irene Smith. Althea met her husband to be when her cousin brought his classmate, John Rozeboom, to a Thanksgiving dinner. They were married on December 19th, 1941. Althea and John lived in several New Jersey towns where John pastored while finishing his divinity degree from Drew Seminary. Their two daughters, Dianne and Althea (Kit), were born in New Jersey. The family moved to Detroit in 1950 and to Flint in 1953. There, Althea brought puppetry to Flint school children through the Mott Foundation Children's Theater Program. In addition, she and her daughters formed their own travelling puppetry troupe, The Rozeboom Puppeteers. Althea also worked closely with John to develop educational materials for family life within the Methodist Church. She completed a degree in Education at the University of Michigan and taught in the Saginaw Public Schools. In 1976, when John accepted a position as pastor of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio, Michigan, Althea retired from teaching and developed several programs within the church, including liturgical dance, youth focused after school programs and World Hunger Outreach. When John retired in 1981, Althea and he moved to Midland, Michigan, where Althea became a docent and developed a youth oriented volunteer program for the Midland Arts Council. In recognition of her contributions, the Arts Council named an annual award after her: The Althea Rozeboom Volunteer Award. She was its first recipient. During this time she also studied and taught Tai Chi. In 2001, she and John moved to Oakwood Village in Springfield, OH, to be closer to family. Althea is survived by her daughters, Dianne Collinson and Kit Crawford, and her sister, Marian, of Allentown, PA, three grandchildren and their spouses, and seven great grandchildren. Visitation is on Friday, May 6, from 10 to 11:00 a.m., services at 11:00 a.m., at LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, 830 N. Limestone, Springfield. Burial to follow at Massies Creek Cemetery, Cedarville.
