OETTING, John David* - Springfield  
News Death Notice OETTING, John David Was born in Oak Park hospital and raised in Riverside, Illinois August 31, 1932. He has lived in Ohio since 1972. David graduated St. John's Northern Military Academy in Delafield, WI in 1951. As a cadet, Dave was a Sergeant 1st Class and member of Company "C" and Draggon Club. He received a silver star and was an Inter- Platoon Competition winner, Ivanhoe Competition winner, General King Competition winner and he received a recruiting medal and served on the Academy Crew Team for two years. David was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He graduated from the Northrop Aerospace University in California and spent twelve years in the Aerospace industry as a preliminary design consultant in Apollo projects. The next 22 years he was the preliminary design and technical manager for Structural Concepts of Aerospace Structures at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He retired from WPAFB in 1994. David was also an active member of the Old Boys Association Board of Directors at SJNMA, the Lions Club, the Elks Association, and also a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, The Society of Automotive Engineers, the USAF Joint Technical Coordinating Group/Aircraft Survivability, and the Joint DOD/NASA/FAA/ Committee for Composite Structure. He recently received the Distinguished Service Award from St. John's Northwestern Military Academy for his devoted service, leadership, and loyalty. David is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty McDaniel Oetting, and is survived by his four children, Catherine Nicholas, Jenny (Tom) Ross, J. David Jr., Monique Beban, and eight grandchildren. He was a dedicated and loving father, grandfather and husband. David lived life to the fullest, always with a smile and a joke. He had a very positive outlook on life, PMA, as used to call it....Positive Mental Attitude. He will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held in his honor at Indian Lake Community Church, 120 Orchard Island Road, Russells Point, Ohio 43348 on June 28th, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Refreshments and fellowship to follow afterward.
