News Death Notice

SCHLUB, Carl F. 98, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born December 29, 1915 in Waynesburg, Ohio, the son of the late Frederick B. and Stella B. (Janson) Schlub. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1934. Carl earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering at The Ohio State University in 1938. In 1941 he began a 38 year career as a contracting officer for the Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB. In 1953 he served as an official courier for the United States Air Force commanding general in Wiesbaden, West Germany. Carl was a violinist for the Springfield Symphony and the Living Christmas Tree at Maiden Lane Church of God, a member of the Springfield Harmony Knights barber shop chorus, an avid tennis player in Springfield and Fairborn and a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was also a member of several professional engineering societies. Survivors include four sons, Richard (Judy) Schlub of Hamilton, Ohio, Robert (Joanne) Schlub of Chalan Pago, Guam, David (Patrice) Schlub of Columbus, Ohio and James (Constance) Schlub of Springfield; one daughter, Carolyn (Brice) Musser of Ottawa, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, George, Alice, Glenn, Tovia, Gretchen, Stella, Nora, Hala, Karl, Susanna and Riley and six great-grandchildren, Meagan, Anne, Kate, Melissa, Adam and Samuel. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Arvella M. (Smith) Schlub and two sisters, Miriam S. McDorman and Louise J. Schlub. The family would like to thank the staff of Oakwood Village for the compassionate care they gave Carl and Arvella. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 6-8 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Daniel Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Burial Park.
