Don W. BRYAN


News Death Notice

BRYAN, Don W. 90, of Springfield passed away March 22, 2014 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born November 22, 1923 in Springfield, the son of the late Archellis Gabriel and Leatha Marie (Organ) Bryan. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1942. Don was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and United States Air Force. He served our country proudly during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War where he was a Radar Technician and taught electronics. After the military, Don retired from Westreco, a research division of the Nestles Corporation in Marysville, Ohio and there he was head of the instrumentation electronics department. He was a member of the Ohio Free Masons, Knights Templar, Scottish Rite, Shriners and High Twelve at Springfield Masonic Community. Don designed and constructed stained glass art for many years and enjoyed watching all sports. "Pops" enjoyed the holidays and the tradition of gathering around the table with family and friends. He enjoyed passing out Marie's Candies. Survivors include two sons, Kelly G. (Beverly) Bryan of Springfield and Don P. (Carrie) Bryan of Springfield; two sisters, Florence H. Hostetler of Stewart, Nebraska and Glenna Mae Kadel of Springfield; one brother, William E. (Erma) Bryan of New Haven, Indiana; four grandchildren, Dustin G., David C., Jessie Bryan and Matthew Knott; numerous nieces, nephews, special friends and "old grouches". He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Iona M. (Scott) Bryan; one son, John O. "Bear" Bryan; infant siblings, Naomi, Isam and Ester; sisters, Ruth V. Gray and Mildred A. Bryan and brothers, John W., Joseph C. and Paul E. Bryan. A celebration of Don's life will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 1 pm in the Hillman Manor at the Springfield Masonic Community, 2655 W. National Rd, Springfield, OH 45504. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Ohio Masonic Home Foundation c/o Masonic Financial Assistance Care.
