Elmer Richard (Marty) MARTIN


News Death Notice

MARTIN, Elmer Richard "Marty" 83, of Springfield passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in Forest Glen. He was born March 2, 1930 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, the son of the late Ray Lindsey Rader and Earsel May (Davis) Martin. Marty served in the United States Army-Airborne during the Korean Conflict, where he was a Purple Heart recipient. He took great pride in the service of his country and would share his stories. Marty retired after 39 years from Big Bear as a Produce Manager. He enjoyed masonry work, bicycling and hunting. Marty never met a stranger and he was liked by everyone he met. He was a faithful member of the Lawrenceville Church of God, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and trustee. He lived his life according to 1 Timothy 6:12; Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. On May 15, 2013, we lost a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, brother and brother-in-law; his survivors include his wife of 63 years, Martha Yvonne (Ellison) Martin; daughters, Kathy (Dean) Taylor, Peggy (Steven) Kaffenbarger both of Springfield; sons, Ray (Patty) Martin, Westville, OH and Bryan (Kathryn) Martin, Ozark, MO; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray Martin, Jr. and Freddy Martin; sister, Rosalie White; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to thank the staff at Forest Glen and Debra Hay (Comfort Keepers) for the wonderful care he received during his stay. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 pm on Friday, May 17, 2013 in the Lawrenceville Church of God. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 18, 2013 in the church officiated by Pastor Alan Cain where the family will receive friends 1 hour prior. Services are entrusted to SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
