News Death Notice
MASON, Emma Catherine Piatt 97, of Springfield passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 in the Ohio Masonic Home. She was born in Dalton, Ohio on March 30, 1916, the daughter of Glenn and Cora (Penwell) Hayes. She was a longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene. Emma was an expert seamstress, she had worked as an interior decorator for many years with Ensign's, Wendell Smith Interiors, and Sears. Emma also enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She was the last of a family of eleven children. Emma was preceded in death by her first husband William E. Piatt, Sr, whom she married April 20, 1934 and passed away in 1965; her second husband William A. Mason, whom she married Dec. 7, 1968 and passed away in 1976. Survivors include her five children William E. (Phyllis) Piatt, Jr. of Gideon, Missouri, Fern Merriman and Janice Hill both of Springfield, Bess (Phil) Romagna of Menomonee, Wisconsin, and Mary Lou (Ernie) Young of Marquette, Michigan; Eleven grandchildren; twenty -four great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two step -great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services to honor Emma will be Saturday at 11:00AM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME with Rev. Keith Sarver officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial to follow in Enon Cemetery. Her family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the friendly staff at the Ohio Masonic Home Pathways and to Cornerstone Hospice for making their Mother's final days as easy as possible. She loved life, her family and her Lord. She is safely home at last. Memorial contributions are requested to the First Church of the Nazarene 901 E Home Road Springfield, Ohio 45503. Dear Janice, Fern, and other family members,
Catherine was a wonderful christian who lived each day for the Lord. I am sure she would not want to come to this earth after setting at the feet of Jesus and enjoying all the beauty of Heaven.You all are in my thoughts and prayers.God will comfort you and help you through this traumatic time you are going through at this time.
