News Death Notice

HOBBS, Gene E. 71, of Enon, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013 at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born on October 5, 1942 in Chalybeate Springs, North Carolina the son of Walter E. and Lois Dale (Sanford) Hobbs. He served our country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his military service he joined the Clark County Sheriff's Office in 1972 and retired as a Lieutenant in 1999 after twenty-seven years of service. During his time with the Sheriff's Office he worked in the K-9 unit with his partner "Snoopy", and was a part of the Clark County Underwater Recovery Team. He was a member of the Hillside Church of God and coached youth baseball and football in the Enon area for many years. Gene loved spending time with his family and playing golf with his two sons who followed in his career footsteps in law enforcement. He was also an avid Ohio State and Bengals football fan. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Pat (Boggess) Hobbs, two sons and daughters-in-law: Douglas and Amy Hobbs and Chad and Amanda Hobbs all of Enon; ten grandchildren: Ashley, Macie, Kaylee, Camryn, Cole, Cason, Sara, Heidi, Mallory, and Keith; one great grandson, Samuel, one brother, Don Hobbs of Xenia, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the compassionate caregivers, nurses and doctors at the Springfield Regional Medical Center. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, November 11, 2013 from 5-8:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A celebration of his life and career will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Hillside Church of God. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Enon Cemetery.
