ISLEY, Howard La'Rue Sonny-Poppie 74, of Springfield, went from Labor to Rest in the hands of the Lord at 1:40 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center with his family at his side. Sonny was born on October 27, 1938, the son of the late Rosanna Isley. Poppie leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 47 years, Joyce (Vance) Isley; five sons, Michael Peacock and Arnita Cosby of Akron, OH, Joseph Peacock of Minneapolis, MN, John R. Isley, Howard M. Isley both of Springfield, OH and Dwayne (Diamond) Isley of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters , Phylliss (Terrance) Locke of Springfield, OH and Delores Lewis of KY; twenty grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one special sister-in-law, Leona Cameron; very special friends, Kenneth McCall, Melvin Armstrongand Michael Goodwin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, In-laws, and friends. Sonny served in the United States Army and worked 26 years at Navistar. Poppie was a member at Zion Hill Baptist Church where he served faithfully, he was also a member of the Frontier Club, he was a Brother of the Miami Consistory, Past Master of Champion Lodge #15 Free and Accepted Mason, Past High Priest of Mt. Olive Chapter #4 RAM, Member of Brown/Burks Council #14 R&SM, Wilson Commandry #2, Past Potentate of Akbar Temple #41 Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystric Shrine and Past Patron of Golden Star #1 Order of the Eastern Star. Bro. Isley was the most wise Master in Melchisedeck Chapter of Rose Croix, the Highest Office in that House. He was preceded in death by his mother; one brother, Donnie Isley and one sister, Delores Booker. Sonny was a friend to all who crossed his path. The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Trydestone Baptist Church, 1710 Damascus Ave. with Special Masonic Service at 6:00 p.m. where the funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Mike Young officiating. Interment will be held at Ferncliff Cemetery. Repass will be held at Champion Lodge, 541 Fair St. immediately following the service.
