James (Larry) PORTER


News Death Notice

PORTER, James "Larry" 62 of Urbana, passed away, Monday, February 18, 2013 in his home. He was born July 12, 1950 in Springfield, Ohio and was a 1968 graduate of North High School. He served his country in the United States Army as a Specialist 5th Class during Vietnam. Larry enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Basketball. He was a member of the Urbana Pearce-Kerns American Legion Post # 120, where he served as past commander, the Urbana VFW, AMVETS, the Urbana Eagles, the Union Club & Machinist Club. He is survived by his daughter Annette Michelle (George) Frost, his son, Marshall (Elizabeth) Porter both of Urbana, his grandchildren, Sean, Caitlin & Andrew "Big Jim" Frost and Brittany, Emelee & Joshua Porter; his brothers, Charles Ray (Brenda) Porter of Springfield, Chester Douglas Porter of Springfield, Dwight David (Michele) Porter of Marysville, Edward Allen (Joy) Porter of Springfield and Paul Richard (Stephanie) Porter of Huber Heights; as well as numerous nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester Austin and Dorothy Agnes (Doty) Porter. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana; where services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Jim Chess will officiate. Burial will follow in OakDale Cemetery, Urbana. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 in Larry's memory or to any Veterans Charity.
