James Robert EAKMAN

News Death Notice

EAKMAN, James Robert was born April 29, 1945 to Harold and Betty (Powell) Eakman. Following graduation from Catholic Central High School in Springfield, Ohio in 1963, Jim attended Ohio State University. In 1966, Jim was drafted to the Vietnam War and served his country two years in the U.S. Army. In 1968, Jim married Karen (Knell) and after graduating from Ohio State University, became a teacher and athletic director at Olentangy High School in Delaware, Ohio. In 1974, Jim and Karen moved to Kailua, Hawaii and became members of the St. John Vianney Parish. In Hawaii, Jim continued his profession in education for 36 years, mainly as a teacher at Maryknoll High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. During that time he took numerous trips to Russia with his Advanced Placement students. Jim passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014. He is survived by his wife Karen, mother Betty, brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Janet, daughter and her family Lisa, Rob, Gabriel, Ke'alohilani, and Kona'ihilani. A private memorial will be conducted at St Brigid Catholic Church in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at a future date.
