News Death Notice

BARNETT, Roberta Otstot (McBeath) 74, of Springfield passed away in the company of her husband and three sons at the James Cancer Center in Columbus on October 20, 2012. Roberta was born in Springfield on December 16, 1937, the daughter of Robert and Barbara (McBeath) Otstot. She was a graduate of Springfield High School in 1955 and of Duke University in 1959. Roberta was active in her community. She was a volunteer and board member of Clark Memorial Home and of Young Woman's Mission. She was an active supporter of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and of its Women's Association (WASSO), serving as its president in 1986-88. She was a long-time member of High Street United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities, including its pastor-parish relations committee and as a trustee. She is survived by Hugh Barnett, her husband of 49 years, sons Hugh W. (Cindy) Barnett III of Springfield, Samuel M. (Sarah) Barnett of Sacramento, Daniel J. (Lauren) Barnett of Mountain Lakes NJ, grandchildren Wilson, Jake, Whitney, Robbie, Jamie, Catie and Jonathan, and step-sister Julia Cady of Yellow Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Folger Howell, step-sister Janet Lotz, and step-brother David Howell. Burial at Ferncliff Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family. A memorial service for family and friends will be held November 21 at 11 a.m. at High Street United Methodist Church, 230 East High Street, Springfield OH, followed by a reception in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, 300 S.
