Roscoe J. SHELLMAN


News Death Notice

SHELLMAN, Roscoe J. 91, of Springfield, passed away Saturday morning, April 12, 2014 at the Springfield Masonic Community. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 25, 1922, the son of the late Roscoe and Bessie (Applin) Shellman. He was a 1940 graduate of Springfield High School and entered the Civilian Conservation Corps. Roscoe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from Bauer Bros. Foundry following many years of service and previously worked for the Oliver Plow factory. A member of the Church of Jesus Family Worship Center, Roscoe sang in the Senior Pastor's Choir. He previously sang in the male chorus at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, was a member of the Toastmasters Club and volunteered with the Male Mentorship Program with the Springfield City Schools. Survivors include four children, Leroy (Mary) Shellman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Arlene Sellers of Fairborn, Lenore Shellman of Mesquite, Texas, and Roscoe Shellman of Springfield; a sister, Elizabeth Knox of Chickamauga, Georgia; a brother, William Shellman of Johnson City, Tennessee; a granddaughter, Nayta Turner of Fairborn; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Alice (Hampton) Shellman in 2008 and a brother, Theodore Shellman Sr. Bishop Cecil A. Pratt will preside over a joyful celebration of his life, which will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Church of Jesus Family Worship Center, 632 S. Center St. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
