News Death Notice

CLARKE, Jr., Samuel D. 92, of Springfield passed away Wednesday evening, February 12, 2014 in his residence with his beloved family by his side. He was born April 12, 1921 in Pittsburgh, the son of Samuel D. and Adelaide (King) Clarke. Sam attended William and Mary College. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served our country proudly during World War II. Throughout Sam's working career he worked at Rust Engineering as director of purchasing, Teledyne Ohio Cast as vice president of sales and Duraloy as vice president of sales and marketing. He was an active volunteer at S.C.O.R.E. where he had served as a president, the Literacy Coalition and he also served as a deacon and trustee at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Sam was past president of the Springfield Country Club and an avid golfer. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Nancy (Donaldson) Clarke; two daughters, Sally (Carty) Hall of Cincinnati and Anne (Lance) Kaull of Cleveland; daughter-in-law, Kate Rust of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren, Emily, Clarke, Cart, Hannah, Merrick, Grey, Zehr and George; two great-grandchildren, Sammy and Danny and dear friends and caregivers, Donna and Ronnie Bowshier and Maria Weiss. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Samuel D. Clarke. A celebration of Sam's life will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11 am in Covenant Presbyterian Church with Pastor Raymond Stewart officiating.
