Betty S. BURROWS Obituary

News Death Notice

BURROWS, Betty S. beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2012 at home with her family. Betty was born April 14, 1926 in Cambridge, Minnesota to Henry and Grace (Holker) Soderquist. Betty moved with her family to Springfield, Ohio in 1956 where she has resided ever since. Betty was very proud of her accomplishments as President of Murray Black Company, which she owned and operated for many years. As a business person, she was strong and determined, but she also loved her employees who were incredibly supportive of her after the death of her husband, William F. Burrows in 1988. She considered her Murray Black Company colleagues a part of her family. Betty began playing golf at the Springfield Country Club many years ago and enjoyed playing golf well into her 80's. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her nearly life-long Springfield friends and Betty considered herself blessed by those friendships. In addition to her many other interests, Betty was an accomplished artist as her beautiful oil paintings and pencil drawings can attest. She was a fine piano player and, until her eyesight failed, it was one of her favorite pastimes. Many a family gathering was enlivened by her piano accompaniment to the vocal renditions of her children and friends. Betty was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a beautiful, accomplished, charming, smart and complex woman. Betty is survived by her aunt, Mary Slattery; sister, Shirley Keller; son, Ross (Pat) Bridgman; daughters, Laura Copeland, Nancy Bridgman and Cynthia (Dan) Gustin; grandchildren, Wyatt, Taylor, Phillip, Katharine and Elizabeth; great grandchildren, Emily, Grace, Sophia and Isabella; nephews Frank and Tony; niece, Sandra. Also surviving are beloved friends, Tom (Marilynn), Doug (Chris), David (Paula), and Nicole Sturgess, and Elizabeth and Larry Kibler. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; loving companion of twenty-two years, Mike Sturgess; her husband William F. Burrows; her uncle Don Slattery; and her ex-husband George R. Bridgman. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM. in the Covenant Presbyterian Church with Pastor Ray Stewart officiating. Betty's family will receive visitors following the service in the Library Lounge of the church. The family is being served by RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORI.AL HOME. Memorial contributions may be made to the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 North Limestone Street, Springfield, Ohio 45503. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.richardsraffanddunbar.com.
