News Death Notice

VERMILLION, Clyde E. 85, of Springfield, died peacefully at home on Saturday May 18, 2013. He was born January 31, 1928 in Kenton, Ohio, the son of Edna and Jesse Vermillion. Clyde is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Imogene (Wibright) Vermillion; his children; Mary Lou (Alan) Kittles, Gary (Cynthia) Vermillion, Debbie (Roger) Lute, Gerald Vermillion of Russells Point, Ohio and Scott (Dawn) Vermillion of Naples, Florida, and his daughter-in-law Diane Vermillion. He has three sisters and one brother. He was preceded in death by his son Randy, his parents, three sisters and five brothers. Clyde was extremely proud of his twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Clyde served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a charter member of Northside Christian Church and a member of First Christian Church. He retired from the Springfield Water Treatment Plant after thirty years of service and operated a mobile welding service from his home. He also worked with his sons at Ran-Gar Mfg. during the summer months. After retiring, Clyde and Jean spent their winters in Okeechobee, Florida. He soon became known as the "Candy Man" for his generous habit of giving away candy to everyone. In his latter days his hobby was making "Hill Billy" flashlights. A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday at the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME from 3 - 7 p.m. services will commence at 7 p.m. with Pastor Craig Grammer officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview McDonald Cemetery, Kenton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 444 West Harding Road, Springfield, Ohio 45505 or First Christian Church.
