News Death Notice
SMITH, Lawrence M. age 67 of Springfield, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012. He was born July 27, 1945 in Bradford, PA, and reared in Dunkirk, NY. Larry, who was certified as an LISW, was the founder of Smith & Associates Counseling Service in Columbus where he was often requested for his expert opinion and television commentary on pending sex abuse cases. The latter part of his career was spent with the Ohio Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He earned his B.A. from S.U.N.Y. at Fredonia and M.S.W. from The Ohio State University. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force serving with the Arctic Survival Unit stationed in Goose Bay, Labrador. His varied interests included research on colonial and revolutionary history with a focus on his ancestor Tangier Smith; coaching the Anvils Power Lifting Team; competing in drug free power lifting associations where he held several state, national, and world records; and adopting from and supporting Boxer Rescue. He was preceded in death by his father Earl R. Smith and his wife Linda (Sonn) Smith. Larry is survived by his loving partner, Rita Whip; two sons, Eric Smith (Jeannine), Larry Smith (Dina); his mother, Aliene Smith; his brother, Jeffrey (Ellen) Smith; two grandsons, Mick and Max; and a host of extended family and friends. He was a good man who left the world a better place due to sharing his knowledge, performing random acts of kindness, and loving deeply.
