Mary E. (Kirkham) SKILLINGS Obituary

News Death Notice

SKILLINGS, Mary E. (Kirkham) 102, passed away on April 23, 2014. She was born on March 29, 1912, in Clark County, the daughter of the late Oliver H. and Lula (Stewart) Kirkham. Mary graduated from Plattsburg High School in 1930 and from Springfield Business College in 1932. She married Earl Skillings on January 19, 1933 and became a member of the Second Lutheran Church (later Good Shepherd Lutheran Church) in 1934. She and her husband spent 27 years in Florida after his retirement. Mary and her late husband traveled extensively. They visited all 50 states and 11 foreign countries. Their special trip was to Thailand for the wedding of their oldest grandson. She loved to read, work crossword puzzles, gold and garden. She was a volunteer at Community Hospital for many years. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Paul Henn, brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Phyllis Kirkham and brother-in-law, Harry Ingling. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and William Ridenour and Jan and Dan McClintick; 9 grandchildren, David Henn, Lisa (Chris) Mulcahy, Kathy (Dave) Gruber, William (Jeem) Ridenour, Kirk Ridenour, Rick (Mary) Ridenour, Kristin (Dave) Warne, Brad McClintick and Allison McClintick; 12 great-grandchildren, Michael Henn, Danny and Jason Gruber, Will, Matt and Andrew Ridenour, Rachel, Stephanie and Greg Ridenour, Kingsley Warne and Tyler and Kaitlyn McClintick; sister, Helen Ingling; and many nieces and nephews. The staff at Good Shepherd Village has been outstanding and warrants our praise. Services will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 3 p.m. at INGLING WILLIAMS & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME-South Charleston with family receiving friends one hour prior to service. Burial will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Fletcher Chapel Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.jacksonlytle.com
