COMER, Patty Ruth (Walters) 80, of Springfield was ushered in to Heaven Saturday February 16, 2013. She was born April 3, 1932 in Pike County, Ohio, the first child of ten to Charles and Dorothy (Ware) Walters. Patty married R.J. Comer on June 17, 1950. She was the birth mother of seven children, a foster mother, and grandmother to 23 grandchildren, 20 great - grandchildren, and 2 great-great -grandchildren. Survivors include children; Reaford Larry Comer of Springfield, Chuck (Alice) Comer of South Vienna, Rebecca "Jill" (Brian) Roberts of Springfield, and Cecil (Joyce) Scott of La Salle, Illinois, foster son; Rick (Linda) Berry of Springfield, and foster daughters; Latonia Gore of Boulder City, Colorado, Anna Whitacre, and Jackie Wires, both of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her husband; R.J. Comer, children; Rick Comer, Patsy Lockhart, Penny Comer, and James Comer, and her parents. In 1967, Patty and R.J. took on their first foster child. In 1972, they founded Bethesda Home at 2400 Springfield Xenia Rd., and for the next 30 years they devoted their lives to hundreds of boys and girls who all called Penny "Mom Comer." Patty and R.J. also cared for alcoholics and families of need in the community during this time. She was the owner and operator of the Banqueting House Catering Service. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and a 4-H leader for 30 plus years. Patty was an active member of the community, serving on several boards and involved in many business and community projects. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00PM until 7:00PM in the First Assembly of God Church, 515 S. Burnett Rd. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00AM in the church with Pastors Tom Bell and Bud Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by the JONES - KENNEY - ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
