COLLINS, William F. At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2006, William Frank Collins passed from this world. He spent his final time in the kindly and attentive care of the Elizabeth House, a facility of the Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care. Mr. Collins was born, on April 13, 1925, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He spent his youth in Springfield, Ohio where he graduated from Springfield High School in 1943. As a student there, he earned varsity letters in football and baseball and was the president of his graduating class. Immediately upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Collins was a flight officer, serving as a navigator and briefing officer. He flew missions in the India-Burma and Central Burma theatres and flew "the Hump." He also ferried C-46's into England. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre medal, the World War II Victory medal, and the American Theatre Ribbon. He was a proud member of the Hump Pilots Association. The Army conferred upon him an Honorable Discharge in October of 1945. After his service, Mr. Collins attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned a bachelor's degree in arts from Vanderbilt in 1949, and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity there. While at Vanderbilt, he met and married Nancy Randolph Booker, Carter and Curtis's mother. After twenty-one years, that marriage ended in divorce. Mr. Collins spent most of his adult life in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he worked in sales as a Manufacturer's representative for brick, tile, and other building materials. He founded and successfully ran W. F. Collins, Inc. for many years there. Mr. Collins was a member of the University Club in Springfield and in Hendersonville, North Carolina and of the Rotary Club. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his parents, Holmes Turpen Collins and Anice Eustacia (nee Redmond) Collins, and his brother and sister-in-law, Holmes Turpen Collins, Jr. and Joy Collins. Besides his loving daughters, Mr. Collins is survived by their children and grandchildren.
