William E. WILLIAMS Obituary

News Death Notice

WILLIAMS, William E. 89, of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was born on October 27, 1923 in Springfield, Ohio. He was the only son of Fred J. and Gladys (Cushard) Williams. He entered military service on December 6, 1940 with the U. S. Navy and retired September 30, 1973 from the U. S. Army. He was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor and served in Viet Nam. He received numerous decorations and citations including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of the D. A. V., V. F. W., AmVets, Purple Heart and Pearl Harbor Survivors. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Jean Williams, sister and brother-in-law; Retha (Jeff) Honefanger, stepfather; Floyd Stiles, son-in-law; George Crellin and three stepsons. He is survived by a sister; Rachel Althouse of Florida; children, Fred (Marci) Williams, Dave Williams, Karen Crellin, Enon and Cindy (Ron) Hunter of Springfield, stepdaughters; Patty Conrad, Kathy Champaign and GiGi Brown of Virginia, 19 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held with full Military Honors in Ferncliff Cemetery Soldier's Mound at 11:00AM Saturday. A portion of Mr. Williams' ashes will be entombed in the U. S. S. Arizona in Pearl Harbor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the U. S. O. or to Honor Flight or to the Sons of AmVets Post 25 for the Georgetown Veterans Home. The family would like to thank Michelle and the other nurses and aids at Villa Springfield for all of their wonderful care. Arrangements are being handled by the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
