News Death Notice

McFARLAND, Max R. 86 years old, went home to be with Jesus on February 23, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents Chester and Lena (Free); sons Keith and Kevin; brothers Elwood, Harold, Jay, Bill and Lloyd; sisters Esther Blakely, Mildred Gault and Isabel Dustman. He is survived by his love of 36 years, Lucretia (Burton) McFarland; son Bryan; sisters Norma McFarland and Ivanell Wolf; stepsons Larry James (Cheryl), Terry James (Christy), Mack Howard (Kris); daughter in laws Penny McFarland Castle and Jennifer (Lehman) Buckner. He dearly loved their combined family of 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, many dear in-laws and nieces and nephews. Max was a lifelong resident of the Springfield area until they moved permanently to Bradenton, Florida in 2010. He was a veteran of the Korean War at "Pork Chop Hill," where he fed the soldiers during wartime. He owned and operated his own McFarland and Sons Butcher Shop on Dayton-Springfield Road for more than 25 years. Max had a strong belief and love for his Heavenly Father and always attended the Church of God. Funeral services will be held 10:00am Saturday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to the services. Burial, with military honors, will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton, Florida.
