News Death Notice

CRAWFORD, Lucretia Joan 71, of Springfield passed away March 1, 2014. in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. She was born on November 20, 1942 in Springfield the daughter of Eugene and Margaret Alyce (Ramsey) Crawford. She graduated from Shawnee High School and later Wittenberg University with a Bachelor's of Arts in English. Lucretia devoted her life to the advocacy for adults with physical disabilities, spearheading the local efforts to implement the Americans with Disabilities Act. She served on various boards and committees including the Fair Housing Board, the Transportation Board and more recently the Human Relations Board of the City of Springfield. Lucretia was active in the Clark County Democratic Party and served as a delegate to the 2000 Democratic National Convention. In 2010 she received the Clark County Democratic Party Hall of Fame Award. She retired from the Salvation Army, after over 20 years, where she was the Director of Services for Persons with Disabilities. She was instrumental in the formation of the Hand 'n Hand Center. She is survived by her mother, one sister and brother-in-law, Jeannine and Charles R. Taylor of North Carolina; cousin Robert(Diane) Needles of Springfield, nephew, Charles C. (Allison) Taylor of North Carolina, grandnephew, Nathan Taylor, special Aunt, Juanetta Ramsey and many cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her father. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. In the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with Major James Gingrich of the Salvation Army officiating.
