ELLIOTT, Betty (Shaffer)Stephens 88, of Springfield, passed away Wednesday morning, April 16, 2014. She was born November 5, 1925 in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of Ralph E. and Lillian Thompson Shaffer. Betty attended Springfield High School and was a long time member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Philip and wife, Linda Stephens of Springfield and her daughter -in-law, Margie Stephens of Knoxville, Tennessee; two stepsons, Robert A. Elliott of San Diego, California and Byron Jay Elliott of Marathon, Florida; seven grandchildren, Ian (Kate) Stephens of Bay Village, Ohio, Colleen (Kevin) Milks of Toledo, Ohio, Wendy (Zac) Shaffer of Springfield, Ohio, Kristin (Ryan) Stults of Durham, North Carolina, Ryan (Miriam) Stephens of Olympia, Washington, Rebecca Stephens of North Carolina and step granddaughter, Mollie (Scott) Weikert of Silver Springs, Maryland. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Maeve, Timothy, Emma, Jacob, Noah, Nicholas, Calvin, William, Sara, Raina and Elizabeth; step great-grandchildren, Bronwyn, Ellie and Charlotte; a niece, Cynthia Shaffer of South Carolina. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ralph E. Shaffer Jr.; her first husband, Harold L. Stephens; second husband, Robert H. Elliott; one son, Roger L. Stephens; brother-in-law, Ronald Stephens; sisters-in-law, Virginia Christopher, Blanche Hoppes, Roxie Shaffer; step sister-in-law, Viva Kinsley and niece, Diana Shaffer. During her years of employment Betty worked as the cashier at the downtown JC Penneys, the head cashier at Albers Supermarket and as a GED tutor for the Springfield City Schools. Betty was an avid sports fan and enjoyed knitting Christmas stockings for her family. Family was her life and she was passionate about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 11 am to 12 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will begin at 12 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Ken Whitt officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Community Mercy Hospice, in memory of Betty Stephens Elliott. You may express condolences to the family at
